Accidental Landscapes

Discovered on old boat hulls, rusting Guard rails and dumpsters. Imaginary landscapes of sea, sky, trees, and rivers.

Most of the photos for the Accidental Landscapes series were taken in Concord, in places you pass by every day. On a walk around Annursnac Hill during the Pandemic, I noticed the newly installed guard rails were rusting and in the process, magical landscapes of trees were beginning to blossom. In the parking lot behind Debra's Natural Gourmet an enormous blue, paint-splattered dumpster collected construction waste and offered endless landscapes of sea, sky, meteors, and underwater serpents. A storm drain on Keyes Road collected leaves while the water below reflected the sky.

Now most of the images themselves are gone. The guard rails are fully rusted. The blue dumpster vanished overnight with its load of construction waste. And the paint will not survive the planned renovation of its West Concord building. The photographs, however, remain as Accidental Landscapes that I saw as something unique.
